Le pianiste Pascal Sigrist est originaire de Suisse (Neuchâtel), où il accomplit ses études musicales (Roger Boss, Harry Datyner) avant de s'établir en Belgique. Il y étudie également à la Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth auprès d'Eduardo del Pueyo, et suivit aussi les cours de Margot Pinter, Nikita Magaloff et Joszef Szigeti. Lauréat de diverses compétitions internationales, dont le Concours international de Genève (1970), il obtint le Prix de soliste de l'AMS en 1971. Il se produit depuis lors dans tous les pays d'Europe, USA, Japon. Invité comme soliste avec de nombreux orchestres, il joue entre autres sous la direction de Charles Dutoit, Armin Jordan, Michael Gielen, Jerzy Semkov, André Vandernoot, Pierre Bartholomée. Son répertoire comprend, outre une quarantaine de concertos, un large choix de récitals de toutes périodes. Pascal Sigrist met volontiers l'accent sur la musique du XXème siècle, et bénéficie des conseils des compositeurs qu'il rencontre (Frank Martin, Olivier Messiaen, Luciano Berio, Klaus Huber, Pierre Bartholomée). De ce dernier, il créa et enregistra les Variations (2000) et les 13 Bagatelles (2003). Sigrist est également un chambriste éprouvé, travaillant aussi bien avec les instrumentistes que les chanteurs, et un pédagogue apprécié, au Conservatoire Royal d'Anvers depuis 1972, ainsi que dans différents master classes en Belgique, France, Italie, Suisse, USA.
Shirly Laub was born in 1974 and started to play the violin at the age of four. Encouraged by Isaac Stern, she continued to study the violin and her brilliant playing won her prizes in various youth contests. She studied under Clemens Quatacker at the Royal Music Conservatory in Brussels, where she graduated with distinction and was awarded First Prize and a Higher Certificate for violin. In 1996 she received her ‘Performing Musician' diploma under Wiktor Liberman in Utrecht. She was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra from 1991 to 1998. In 1997 she was awarded the title of ‘Jeune Soliste des communautés des radios publiques de langue française' and in 2001 was a ‘Juventus' prizewinner, with a Council of Europe award. She makes recordings of the combination of violin and piano, and of chamber music, and as first violinist for various radio stations including Musique3, Klara, Concertzender (NL), Radio Classique France, Suisse Romande, Radio Canada, RAI and BBC, and on the Explicit! and Fuga Liberia labels. In 2001 she joined the New York Silk Road Ensemble with whom she played chamber music with Yo Yo Ma and traditional musicians from Central Asia. She worked as a solo violinist for the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from 1998 to 2005 and was regularly invited to perform as leader of the orchestra at Covent Garden opera house, and in the orchestras of the BBC, Liverpool, and various Belgian and Spanish symphony orchestras. In addition to being a soloist and chamber musician (she is a founder member of Oxalys), which enables her to perform in some of the world's most prestigious halls, she is also a professor at the Royal Music Conservatory in Brussels, where she teaches violin.
Tony Nys studied the violin at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels with Clemens Quatacker and Philippe Hirschhorn, and had lessons with U. Gorniak, S. Gawriloff and Ch. A. Linale.
Between 1994 and 1997 he was the first violinist of the Fétis string quartet with whom he had lessons with the Alban Berg Quartet, the Borodin Quartet and the Amadeus Quartet.
He was also a member of the World Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth and Chamber orchestra, playing with conductors such as C. Abbado, I. Fischer, S. Beechkov and P. Boulez.
In 1998, Tony joined the Quatuor Danel as its viola player. With them he played at the most prestigious international venues and recorded many CDs. The Quatuor Danel played with artists such as the Borodin Quartet, The Brodsky Quartet, V. Mendelssohn, G. Knox, G. Caussé, A. Rabinovitsch and F.Braley, and worked with composers such as P. Dusapin, J. Harvey, W. Rihm, H. Lachenmann. As a teacher he was connected to the Universität Witten-Herdecke (G) and the Royal Conservatory of Lyon. In 2005, Tony left the Quatuor Danel.
At the moment he is working with different ensembles such as Prometheus, Ictus, Exploration and Ensemble Modern, and he is a permanent member of the TetraLyre pianoquartet, the TrioFenix stringtrio and the Malibran string quartet.
Tony has played solo viola at La Monnaie Opera in Brussels since 2007.
He also teaches chamber music at the Orpheusinstituut in Gent.
